Week 6 (10/02/25)
This was the sixth week of my Jian Sword project. This week has gone okay. I expected to finish this week having ended my project but I haven't quite got there just yet. I have finished mostly finished my scene but it still needs a few more tweaks to bring it to the level that I want.
The reason it has taken longer than I expected was because after setting up my scene the display of the weapons was still quite plain. To fix this I planned to use the Unreal mannequin to help present the weapons as I thought that would be more interesting than having them laid on the floor or propped up by a wall. I explained this to my tutors and they made the suggestion that I find a character model online and use that. I agreed as I could find a more suitable character model, than the Unreal mannequin, that wouldn't break the scene as much.
I needed to find a suitable model that was already rigged this was so that I could change the pose to make the scene more dynamic, without having to rig it myself (I don't know how to rig a character). After some searching, I came across a model called "A warrior 3d model" created by AP 3d models on Sketchfab.

I used this model by altering the pose inside MAYA and importing the end result into Unreal Engine as a static mesh. I created three variants, one for each model, and placed them on a platform in front of the pagoda. Finding, posing, and placing the model took longer than I had anticipated so I was unable to work on the scene composition as much as I would've liked to.
My plan for next week is to finish the scene and create a presentation of my work, which will mark the conclusion of the project.
